Cosmetics

Cosmetics that make therapeutic claims are regulated by the Therapeutic Goods Administration, which is part of the Federal government portfolio of Health and Ageing.

The Therapeutic Goods Administration website provides a detailed account of how regulation of cosmetics is achieved.

Some cosmetics may contain ingredients that are considered to be industrial chemicals. It is a requirement that the National Industrial Chemicals Notification Assessment Scheme (NICNAS) be notified of all cosmetics that contain industrial chemicals new to Australia.
