About

The Victorian BioPortal will link you to biotechnology companies, research organisations and universities, industry events, statistics and facts, news, access to infrastructure and specialist biotech services as well as relevant Australian government departments. The Portal incorporates all types of bioindustry including: bioprocessing, biomanufacturing, agricultural biotech, industrial biotech, medical devices, diagnostics and human health biotech. The BioPortal lists sources of public, government funding and venture capital for biotechnology. The BioPortal is maintained by the BioMelbourne Network with a view to progressing bioindustry.

The Victorian BioPortal initiative was developed with the assistance of four industry working groups established under the Victorian Government’s 2007-2010 Biotechnology Strategic Development Plan. Their dedication and inspiration is gratefully acknowledged.

The BioPortal directory sources its data from the Directory of Australian Biotechnology, developed and maintained by AusBiotech Ltd in conjunction with the Committee for Marketing Australian Biotechnology (CMAB).

The Department of Business and Innovation (DBI) is the Victorian Government's lead agency for economic development. DBI reflects the increasing emphasis the government places on innovation as a key driver of future economic success. The Science and Technology Programs branch in DBI, focuses on science policy, including biotechnology and medical research, and the implementation of related life science programs.

BioMelbourne Network
The BioMelbourne Network is the peak industry forum for the leaders of the Victorian biotechnology industry. It has more than 185 member organisations that represent 40% of the market capitalisation of the ASX healthcare and biotech index.
The Network brings the biotechnology and research community together, fostering strong links between companies, research organisations, financial markets, and government. It encourages an environment for greater collaboration and provides a consistent platform for information sharing to support development of the sector.

AusBiotech
AusBiotech
is Australia's Biotechnology Industry Organisation, which represents over 3,000 members, covering the human health, agricultural, medical device, bioinformatics, environmental and industrial sectors in biotechnology.
Its membership ranges from start-ups to mature multinationals, research institutes and universities, and also includes individual people from Australia and overseas.
AusBiotech seeks to advance the interests of members through contributing to policy development and implementation, advocacy, networking, advice, education, support services and international out-reach.
